Crate training relies upon your dog’s natural instincts as a den animal. A wild dog’s den is his home, and the crate becomes your dog’s den, an ideal spot to snooze or take refuge right through a thunderstorm. To successfully crate train your dog, don’t think of the crate as a cage, and certainly don’t treat it as one! Never use a crate as punishment.
Why crate training?
— Substantially cuts down the time it takes to house train your dog. Dogs don’t like to soil their dens
— The crate can limit access to the remainder of the house at the same time as your dog learns other rules, like not to chew on furniture
— Crates are a protected way to transport your dog in the car
